Accidental Death Of An Anarchist

18/09/2024

In Italy in the late 1960s until the late 1980s there was a period of political violence and social upheaval which was marked by a wave of both far-left and far-right incidents of political terrorism and violent clashes.

The play is based off one in particular... A few days before Christmas on 12th December 1969 a bomb exploded in an agricultural bank in Milan. More than 16 died and the anarchists were blamed. Later on an anarchist was thrown from a window by the police, however they insisted that he jumped by himself without reason so the case was deemed an "accident". Dario Fo, an Italian playwriter and author wrote Accidental Death Of An Anarchist to cause society to change their opinions: on the police- insinuating that they are incompetent and other things like the ridiculous political corruption.

Bertozzo - Starts off explaining how he is a good guy. Since this is political theatre however we want the audience to be spot on with how each character is. We want them to see him as sneaky, evil and calm.
